The Fringe Festival Stage - open to all
Much is said about the need for evidence-based policymaking, in housing as well as in other areas of public policy, and increased attention is being paid to the question of ‘what works’. There are very good reasons for operating in this way: ultimately, good research can help to ensure that decisions are taken based on a proper understanding of the issue at hand. But in a context of funding constraints, rising service demand, and workforce challenges, it can be difficult for local authorities, housing associations, and other parts of the public sector to operate in this way. Understandably, day-to-day work and statutory obligations take priority. This panel will reflect on this challenge, on the role that research can, and should, play in shaping housing policy and practice, and on the extent to which researchers are responsible for ensuring that their work is accessible and usable.
