Greater Manchester Combined Authority Theatre
The Greater Manchester Combined Authority Theatre will highlight Greater Manchester’s mission to deliver a Healthy Home for All, drawing together its work on Housing First, its UK‑first Good Landlord Charter and property check scheme, and its ambitious plans to build tens of thousands of new, high‑quality, affordable and energy‑efficient homes across the city region. Housing First is part of the GMCA’s pioneering approach to delivering public services and tackling the problems that are hampering wellbeing and economic growth. It is based on the philosophy that good health, good education, and good jobs cannot come without a good, permanent home. It will tackle the roots of the housing crisis by increasing housing supply, improving housing standards, and supporting residents. With a keynote session in conversation with Mayor Andy Burnham, the day will explore how Greater Manchester is tackling poverty and inequality and how it is planning and delivering the right mix of homes to meet the needs of a growing and ageing population. As the trailblazer for English devolution, Greater Manchester will also showcase what a mature devolved system can achieve in practice, offering models, insights and advice to support areas at earlier stages of their devolution journey. Reflecting the GMCA’s track record of collaboration across its ten councils and wider system partners, the theatre will offer insight into how the city region is reshaping services, strengthening neighbourhoods and embedding a holistic approach that sees a safe, healthy, affordable home as the foundation of a good life.
